Saturday 30th September – walking **** Home to Felixstowe Ferry – sunny
periods
Funny old week with both Mag and I full of colds and being a bit sad that
we are not away in the campervan, it’s the first autumn in seven that we
haven’t been away in France :( We have still been fit enough most days to
walk at least to Jacobs Ladder at the end of the prom so today after taking
a parcel for return to the Post Office we headed down to the prom again. It
was cloudy but mild and there must have been at least 20 open water
swimmers from ‘Felixstowe Swimscapes Outdoor Swimming Club out from The
Fludgers with the Volunteer Patrol boat doing it’s tour of the seafront.
At the end of the prom feeling still pretty fit and with the youngsters
from Felixstowe Ferry SC out in front of The Dip we decided to continue on.
It is a few hundred metres across the beach to the next section of concrete
prom. The sun was now making an appearance and I had thoughts of taking the
hoodie off! The Dip café was busy with the owner out playing his Ukulele
as we stopped to watch the dinghies having fun around some buoys in the
light airs. The prom was surprisingly quiet especially now as the grey sky
had been replaced by blue with a top selection of clouds. We made it all
the way to the Ferry with the jetty busy with crabbers and gulls waiting
for any spare bacon. We sat and recovered for a while in the sunshine then
turned to see the River Deben now full of returning dinghies:) The breeze
was filling in nicely now and I was tempted to have a windsurf but we still
had over three miles to walk home including a stop at Tesco’s! It was
even nicer on the return with lovely Autumn sunshine. We must have been out
nearly three hours covering 7 miles, not bad for a couple of old sick
heads! Tomorrow looking like a windsurf at The Dip but sadly cloudy.
